A songbook of care by Anna Palmer

This project aims to bring joy, connection, and therapeutic benefits to elderly residents at a local care home in Todmor-den through weekly communal singing sessions. As a per-forming musician, Anna will lead these sessions around a piano or portable keyboard. The project includes the pur-chase of a small PA system to facilitate outdoor events in warmer months and a mini projector to display lyrics in an accessible, eco-friendly way.

 

O’broni W’awu Art installation by Adelle A’assante

The project is a community-led initiative in Calderdale’s Park ward. An art installation that will address climate justice through art, culture, and heritage. Inspired by the Ghanaian term Obroni W’awu (“clothes of the dead white man”), the project will highlight the cultural and environmental impact of fast fashion while fostering connections between global environmental issues and local lived experiences.

 

Halifax Minster Festival of Wom-en- schools out-reach by Sam Crook

The Festival of Women - Schools Outreach is an integral part of the broader Festival of Women, designed to celebrate women’s lives through drama, storytelling, and reflective ac-tivities. Its core aim is to create safe and inspiring spaces for exploration and dialogue, particularly focusing on children’s engagement with women’s stories.

 

Gender Trans-cending: Above, Below and Through Gender Queer Identities by Corey Hartley

This transformative project weaves together untold queer narratives, mythologies, and histories into a vibrant celebra-tion of arts, culture, and heritage. Centered on three pillars—Exploring, Celebrating, and Creating—the project aims to uncover erased stories, foster community connections, and produce meaningful artistic responses.

 

Champion Jack Memorial by Poppy Durrans

This project aims to adopt a green exchange box and trans-form it into a meaningful memorial for Champion Jack, a beloved figure in the Ovenden community and a national treasure. Champion Jack’s warmth, kindness, and connec-tion to the local area—along with stories of renowned celeb-rities visiting Halifax—have left a legacy.

 

Mindful Art by Rizwana Rehman

This project will deliver textile arts workshops for women liv-ing in disadvantaged conditions who face significant barriers to accessing arts and cultural activities. Over the course of four weeks, participants will create small, individual fabric art patches, which will be collectively assembled into a single canvas.

 

Art for All: Com-munity Voices Exhibition by Alina Savko

The project is aimed at showcasing the talents and stories of underrepresented Calderdale residents. By collaborating with local community centers, individuals from disadvan-taged areas will be engaged through art workshops led by local artists.

 

Elland - Places and Faces by Richard Langford

Elland - Places and Faces is a community-driven photog-raphy project that celebrates the beauty of Elland and the people who live and work there. Building on the success of the Visit Elland project, which highlighted over 100 local businesses and achieved significant engagement on social media, this next phase aims to capture not just the places, but the faces behind them.

 

Canal Heritage Tours by Daanyaal Ahmed

The project aims to enhance the use and appreciation of ca-nals by promoting public recreation, community engage-ment, and heritage education. It will foster community in-volvement through heritage tours that encourage learning about nature and the historical significance of canals, pro-moting mental and physical wellbeing.

 

The Square Lens Halifax Micro Film Festival by Dawn Feather

The project aims to celebrate and showcase local filmmak-ing talent, focusing on artists from Yorkshire, with a particu-lar emphasis on Halifax. The festival will feature four catego-ries: Best Short Fiction, Best Short Documentary, Best Short Film Made in Halifax, and Best Student Film.

 

The Seasonal Shoebox by Sarah Westgarth

The project is a curated art experience designed to bring crea-tivity and connection to families in a flexible, accessible way. It includes three engaging art workshops, allowing children and families to follow video instructions independently starting, stopping, and skipping at their own pace.

 

Heritage in Verse Potwari by Shazia Khadim

This project celebrates and preserves the Pothwari language through engaging workshops focused on poetry and spoken word. Working with at least 10 participants, the initiative pro-vides a safe and creative space for self-expression, skill-building, and cultural connection.
