Age groups: Families with children aged 5-12
This Halloween afternoon blends storytelling and spoken word, visual art and craft, and a light-and-shadow performance.
Children can join a friendly spooky story circle, decorate masks and lanterns, and make shadow puppets using safe, easy-to-handle materials. The session ends with an optional mini-parade using torches and coloured gels to create glowing silhouettes.
All elements are sensory-friendly and adaptable: lighting and sound levels will be adjustable; quiet breakout spaces available; visual timetables and simple instructions provided; and tools such as easy-grip scissors and large brushes offered. Children can participate at their own pace or simply observe.
The event encourages creativity, self-expression and communication, supports fine-motor skills, and strengthens family and peer connections. It also gives children with SEND a safe, inclusive Halloween celebration—something often hard to access elsewhere.
