Sound Space is an inclusive music technology project creating new and adapted instruments and music-making technologies to ensure every young person can experience the creativity, fun and freedom of making music, regardless of disability or additional needs.
Our music-making set-ups have been adapted to support wheelchair users, young people with limited movement, and those with a range of physical, sensory and learning needs. By adapting equipment, controls and ways of interacting with music technology, we can remove barriers and create new ways for young people to make, experiment and express themselves through music.
Sound Space is about more than adapted equipment. We work with each young person to understand how they want to make music and find the most accessible and enjoyable way for them to participate. Using music technology, we can personalise the experience and rethink traditional instruments to create new ways to play.
We will be offering 30-minute 1-to-1 accessible music-making sessions throughout the day. Before sessions, we will consult with parents and carers to understand each young person’s needs, interests and preferred ways of working, allowing us to tailor the equipment and set-up.
Our ambition is simple: to make music technology accessible to everyone. Disability or additional needs should never be a barrier to experiencing the joy of making music.
