Mossy Bottom Laboratory

Shaun the Sheep and the Beast of Mossy Bottom have taken over the museum and Pictureville cinema this half term, and special spooky activities will be available during the Relaxed Session, including stop motion animation and special effects talks.  Check out the website for more info click here

A quieter way to experience the museum.

Our relaxed sessions take place on the last Sunday of every month, offering a calmer environment for visitors who prefer to explore without the usual levels of noise and activity.

These sessions are designed for anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed setting, including neurodivergent visitors, those with sensory processing differences and families who need a quieter space.

What to expect

During relaxed sessions, we make adjustments across the museum to create a more comfortable experience:

  • Reduced sound levels across galleries

  • More consistent lighting (lowered in some areas, increased in others)

  • Quiet spaces available if you need a break

  • Clearer signage and staff on hand to support your visit

  • Sensory backpacks and ear defenders are available to borrow

Accessible film screenings

  • Kid’s Club screenings

The Sunday Kid’s Club screening at 11.00 every Sunday is autism friendly. The sound is lowered at these screenings, the lights are left on and you're free to move around or take a break.

  • Subtitled Sundays

The last evening slot in our Cubby Broccoli screen on Sundays has open captioning. This means subtitles are displayed on screen and provide a transcript of dialogue, sound effects and musical queues.

Booking your free museum tickets in advance is recommended but not necessary
