The Leap is recruiting a new pool of paid Community Researchers to support active and upcoming research, evaluation and learning projects across Bradford. Our forward plan includes multiple funded programmes where community researchers will play a central role.
We’re looking for people who are connected to Bradford’s communities and want to use their knowledge, curiosity and lived experience to help us understand what is changing in the district. Being a professional researcher is not required. We are interested in people, not just qualifications.
About the Community‑Led Research Lab
The Leap’s Community‑Led Research Lab puts local people at the heart of research and evaluation. We work with communities to shape the questions asked, the methods used and how findings are understood. We believe research should be led by and done with communities, not simply about communities.
Our approach has already been tested through previous The Leap initiatives, and this next phase builds on what we’ve learned. We also collaborate with local organisations, Universities and policy groups taking similar community‑led approaches.
Current and upcoming projects include work on heritage, climate action, health and wellbeing, arts and culture, and place‑based change. These subjects will evolve as new programmes develop.

Who We’re Looking For
We want a pool of committed community researchers that reflects the diversity of Bradford District and The Leap’s project portfolio. You might be involved in your neighbourhood, a community group, a cultural organisation, a school, youth work or a campaign. You might be an artist, freelancer, student, volunteer or someone simply curious to learn and get involved in your community. You might care about improving people’s health or access to green spaces in your neighbourhood or about celebrating your culture.
What matters most is that you:
Are interested in people and communities
Listen well and ask thoughtful questions
Communicate respectfully
Work with sensitivity and confidentiality
Are reliable, organised and willing to learn
Care about making a difference
Trusted relationships within underserved communities are a valuable form of expertise. Lived experience and community knowledge are valued alongside formal qualifications. We particularly welcome people whose voices and experiences are underrepresented in traditional research.
