we are delighted to invite you to participate in a discussion with dr majbritt lyck-bowen as she present's her recently completed work, moving with dignity: a positive peace approach to migration.
Bradford is recognised as a City of Sanctuary and was formally awarded Local Authority of Sanctuary status in 2021.
We are living in an increasingly polarised world, where negative narratives and stereotypes about migrants and migration often dominate. At such a time, it is important to pause and look for better alternatives. One of these alternatives is a positive peace approach to migration. This presentation will introduce some of the core concepts of this approach. It will also explore how they can be applied in European countries that migrants travel through and settle in and highlight some of the promising practices that already support this approach.
Through further discussion and a Q&A session we will move on to look at migration/art themes including how migration experience impacts on creative expression and the way that people engage with art and we'll consider how art can help build empathy and a sense of belonging across cultures and our communities. There will be plenty of time for questions and to share experience from within our communities.
